Birdsong - 100 word story

With the world inside, their songs outside seemed like a distant future. Lydia whistled their music, connecting the future and present. Which annoyed Alejandro.

They talked about having kids, even with the madness of the world. When Lydia would make popcorn, that ding ding ding meant the conversation would go to the future.

One bird’s mating call started to imitate the microwave’s ding. Lydia brought up the conversation more often. The future seemed ever-present.

“I respect your game, pajarito,” Ale said. “Always putting the pressure on. But she’s with me.”
